With
over 250 million players worldwide and among the most played
recreational sports in the world, 3x3 will become a key motor
for the growth of basketball. To achieve the aim of making 3x3
basketball the number one urban sport in the world, we have
developed a detailed roadmap aligned with FIBA's mission to
Unite, Promote and Develop.
Creating a sustainable global
basketball community by establishing the means for players and
followers to unite around its common interests will be centered
around the individual ranking system and the related digital
platform: 3x3Planet.
Members
of the 3x3Planet community will be able to interact using the
mobile technology of tomorrow online, with a personalized
dashboard comprising an individual ranking system that allows
each player to team-up with a friend, colleague or even someone
on the other side of the world empowering those at the heart
of the 3x3 project. Our 3x3Planet.com teaser website will give
you a taste of things to come.
That way the number of
followers can and will grow rapidly, embracing the technology to
become the most popular sports community in the world.
Spreading the word about 3x3 basketball to generate interest and
passion will involve the setting up of regional tournament,
national tours and international competition worldwide'' with
the help of National Federations and independent organizers''
and will represent the main channels to promote 3x3.
World Championships and a World Tour will quickly become the
sport's flagship events, while our aim is to see 3x3 basketball
gain full Olympic status.
One of the biggest strengths of
3x3 is the possibility of events being held everywhere, in
spectacular settings, using iconic landmarks as backdrops.
Making 3x3 widely accessible, developing it in schools'
sports programs and providing know-how is essential for the
game to grow from the base up.
Labeled as ''the hottest
ticket in town'' at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010,
the first appearance of 3x3 basketball on the international
stage has made a strong impressions. A good start, but there is
much, much more to come.
ORGANIZE
3x3 will sweep the planet, with tournaments and events popping
up in all corners of the world, giving basketball novices ,
casual and elite players as well as future stars the opportunity
to play 3x3 basketball.
Our role is to help work towards
this objective by providing would-be tournament organizers the
tools to do so, while also sharing our expertise and know-how
that will facilitate the successful hosting of 3x3 basketball
events.
Whether you are a national member federation of
FIBA, an established events organizer, a sponsor or any other
group or individual wishing to join in on hosting of 3x3
basketball, you have come to the right place.
Our 3x3
Workbook for Organizers outlines all the key requirements for
setting up 3x3 events and gathers best practices, providing
helpful information and hints.
With so many different
versions of the game having co-existing, one of our priorities
is harmonising the rules.
The
3x3 Rules of the Game "applicable during the test period and
subject to review following the end of the test period and
related feedback" have been carefully developed by FIBA to
provide a universally played and recognized set of rules and
regulations. These include provisions for every type of game or
tournament played, from simple pickup games to elite
international championships, with (for example) provisions for
play with and without a shot-clock. Check out the summary of the
different rule sets and download the official scoresheet.
The 3x3 logo is a key element of the FIBA 3x3 brand and
implies that the corresponding tournament is part of FIBA 3x3
integrated competition network. Thus a promoter or tournament
can ONLY use the 3x3 logo for promotional or advertising
purposes of an event if the corresponding competition results
are reported to FIBA in a timely manner as described in
www.fiba.com/3x3/resultsupload. Feel free to contact
3x3@fiba.com for further information.
The technical and
administrative aspects of managing sporting events can be
complex and time consuming, but FIBA's 3x3 competition
management tool is designed to keep the hassle to a minimum.
This comprehensive competition management software (which
allows registration of teams and players, create competition
schedules and automatically generate the rankings) has been
designed to keep things as simple as possible for the end user.
Getting familiar with the state-of-the-art software will be
made easy thanks to specifically tailored webinar or online
training course which will teach you everything you need to
know about our 3x3 competition management solution.
FEEDBACK In line with FIBA's
roadmap for the development of 3x3 basketball, the second half
of 2011 has been identified as a key test period, during which
all aspects of the game 'from the rules to the organization of
tournaments and events, including all competition management
tools as well as the individual ranking system' will be
assessed in order to achieve the best possible results as we
look to the future. Join our 3x3 Testing Program and contribute
to the development of the game!
Central to our evaluation
of evaluation of how to further strengthen and grow 3x3 is the
data the feedback we receive from each 3x3 test event.
The data includes statistical information, video analysis and as
much qualitative feedback as can be gathered from everyone
involved, including organizers, fans, all major stakeholders and
"most importantly" the players themselves.
The 3x3 Test
Sheet will provide invaluable quantitative data about the run of
play, the duration of games, scoring trends, fouling etc.
3x3 Organizer Acquaintance Sheet will give us an overview of
who is doing what, when and where, while also allowing us to set
up a network of persons involved in 3x3 basketball.
All
this data will help us to address the needs of the 3x3 community
and to support our effort to further grow 3x3 basketball.
RESULTS UPLOAD IMPORTANT
INFORMATION FOR TOURNAMENT ORGANIZERS: Uploading your tournament
results is indispensable to become part of FIBA's 3x3
competition network and have your tournament count for ranking
purposes. We want to encourage every 3x3 tournament organizer to
use FIBA's 3x3 competition management tool since it includes an
automatic result upload for ranking purposes. However, FIBA has
developed two alternative ways to upload results of your
tournaments from which you can choose:
1. For organizers
with an automated system or own database
CSV files (.zip)
This import type is designed for tournament organizers who
already have an automatic system or own database in use. They
can export their data to the CSV template mentioned above to
ensure a smooth import to the new FIBA 3x3 database. A promoter
can use the combined CSV version or the distinct CSV files. In
the combined version, each row will represent a
competition-team-athlete-game entry, containing all necessary
information for a successful import. The distinct files split
those information into different subgroups.
2. For
organizers who normally capture their results on a paper sheet
or in Excel XLS file
(.zip) The XLS file is designed for
single tournaments / small tournaments and organizers who store
their results e.g. in own XLS files. The XLS has an example /
explanation sheet, containing all necessary information on which
data has to be put into which field.
Sending your
tournament results will also become mandatory in 2012. Only
organizers sending the tournament result in a timely manner will
be accepted in FIBA's 3x3 family. Please send your data to
3x3@fiba.com in order to trigger the import process of your
tournament.
