Turkey with all the Trimmings
Youth players La-Torae Nixon and Travis Manzanares will join coach Shawn Pitterson in a trip to Istanbul next week. There the trio will take part in the Children of the World 2010 basketball camp 25-30 August. They are slated to leave Cayman on Tuesday and return the following Tuesday 31 August. Nixon, 13, has been in local hoops the last three years and was the star of the last Appleby U19 league. Manzanares, 14, has been in the sport two years and played in the Pricewaterhouse Coopers U16 league. Pitterson has coached at all levels of local basketball and recently finished coaching the Esso Blazers adult basketball team in Cayman’s national men’s basketball league. The camp is being put on by the Turkish Basketball Federation in conjunction with the International Basketball Federation (French: Federation Internationale de Basketball), commonly known as FIBA. The Turkish group is covering all accommodations, domestic and international flight expenses. A local high school will host the trio.

Duke defend Championship title! Rising Stars II and Hornets emerge Divion 2 and Under 16 Champions as Bequia Basketball 2010 tourney concludes!
Duke, Rising Stars II and Hornets emerge 2010 Champions of the Bequia Basketball Competition in their respective divisions.  Gold and silver medals, awards and trophies were presented last Saturday night following the games, as an impressive crowd of fans gathered to witness another successful conclusion to the annual tournament, that has become a fixture in the summer calendar for Bequians, and now running twelve years in succession!

Local Montserrat companies come through for basketball camp
Five major companies have announced today that they have all signed up as main sponsors of the first ever ‘Reach One Teach One- Building Bridges to Success’ charity basketball camp this summer. The basketball camp which tips off at the weekend is being organised by the “Warren Cassell Foundation” in association with media group ‘MC Media Inc, UK based sports agency ‘Chances For All Sports’ and the Government of Montserrat. “Their sponsorship allows us to provide a very rewarding experience for all the basketball players who will take part in the one week camp and also open new opportunities for some players”.

Cayman Islands Minister Encourages Sport
Promoting his vision to get all children active, Minister of Youth and Sport the Hon. Mark Scotland met with young basketball players at the Department of Sports annual basketball summer camp.Minister Scotland told students that sport is a positive force that can benefit them throughout life: "Apart from keeping you healthy in body and mind, sports also presents you with many opportunities. If you set your heart on it and train hard, you can one day reach a national team or even get a scholarship." He also praised the children for getting involved in a wholesome activity, instead of being idle: "Engaging in healthy activities certainly keep you out of trouble," he told his captive audience.

Expanded Basketball Clinic Next Summer
If Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, gets his wish, an increased number of young Barbadians could benefit from basketball clinics with National Basketball Association (NBA) players next year. Mr. Lashley expressed this desire yesterday at his Constitution Road, St. Michael, office, when NBA Miami Heat player, James Jones, paid him a courtesy call.
