US Virgin Islands, Jamaica and Puerto Rico won on day one of women's basketball in the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Women's basketball will be played completely at Arquelio Torres Ramírez Coliseum in San Germán. In the first game USVI defeated Trinidad & Tobago 71-59 as Yanique Javois had 23 points and Natalie Day 19.
Puerto Rico won their first Gold medal in the history of the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Women after dominating Jamaica 72-48. Jazmine Sepulveda led Puerto Rico with 20 points and also dished out 6 assists. Sepulveda was selected as the MVP of the tournament. Pamela Rosado added 11 points while Stephanie Rosado and Angiely Morales netted 10 each. ...
Mexico won the Bronze medal in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship by winning over Trinidad & Tobago 78-65. Mexico became the third and final team to qualify for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship for Women (Pre-Olympic.) It was a balanced game but the efficiency from long range (10-20) and in field goals (30-61) gave Mexico the win. Also their points off turnovers (24) decided the game, especially in the second half. Brisa Silva led Mexico in the first quarter with 7 points as Mexico won 18-12. ....
The Kerosene Lamp Foundation, founded by Adonal Foyle launches their newest mentor-ship program entitled “All-Star Student Athletes.” Six children have been selected from five islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as All-Star Student Athletes to travel to Orlando, USA on Thursday July 15th for a two-week summer camp.
