Puerto Rico defeated Mexico, 78-63, and with the win, they grabbed a spot at the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship for Women and the Pan-American Games. Tomorrow Puerto Rico will face Jamaica for the Gold at 20:00. Before that game, Mexico will face Trinidad & Tobago at 18:00 for the third and last spot available for the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship for Women, which qualifies to the 2012 Olympic Games. ....
Jamaica edged Trinidad & Tobago 62-59 to qualify directly for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship for Women and the Pan-American Games. Jamaica will play the winner of Puerto Rico-Mexico for the Gold and Trinidad & Tobago will play for the Bronze against the loser of that game. Simone Edwards scored 17 points and 13 rebounds while Tajay Ashmeade had 12 points and Vanessa Gidden along with Nicole Louden 11. Jamaica won the first quarter 15-11 and at halftime they led 30-22. Then in the second half Trinidad & Tobago made some adjustments and closed in on the Jamaican team, forcing them to win it on the free throw line with 2.9 seconds left....
The US Virgin Islands defeated Guatemala 79-63 and will play against the Dominican Republic for fifth place in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Women. Guatemala will face St. Vincent and the Grenadines for seventh place. Yanique Javois scored 26 points and Natalie Day 21 for USVI who finished the preliminary round 0-3.
