Trinidad & Tobago dominated Guatemala 95-59 on day two of the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Women. Trinidad & Tobago and Guatemala have a 1-1 record. Their advantage in height and speed was very important for Trinidad & Tobagoin this game that they dominated from the start. The first quarter ended 26-14 and the lead at halftime was 48-33. Rhonda John-Davis had 14 points and Joneé Billy 12 for Trinidad & Tobago. The lack of efficiency from the Guatemalan shooters could not allow them to come back into this game and Trinidad scored consistently inside to win. Jamaica got their second win in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Women after beating Mexico 78-73. Simone Edwards led the way with 22 puntos and 13 rebounds while Nicole Louden had 21 and Vanessa Gidden had 13. Jamaica won the first quarter 20-14 where Edwards led with 7 points. In the second quarter Mexico imrpoved their defense and attacked the basket in order to score 24 points and lead at the half 38-36. Brisa Silva led the Mexicans with 10 points. The Jamaicans recovered in the third quarter and took the lead by scoring inside and at the end the score was 60-53. In the final quarter a three pointer by Vanessa Gidden and the free throws by Edwards sealed the game for Jamaica. ...
In a game full of emotion, Mexico defeated the Dominican Republic, 82-81, at the Centrobasket Championship for Women in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. A basket by Brisa Silva with just 8 seconds left on the game clock secured the victory for the Mexicans, which fought the Dominicans from beginning to the end. For Mexico, Erika Gomez scored 29 points, 18 of them in the first half. Gomez was supported by the performance of Brisa Silva, who finished the game with 16 points, and Alexis Castro, with 10. For the losers, Sugeiry Monsac scored 16 points followed by Carmen Guzman and Charnelly Frias, each with 15 points.....
The Grenada National Basketball Association is in the planning stage of hosting the OECS Basketball championship next year – a competitive basketball tournament encompassing eight member countries within the Caribbean – a competition which has been dormant for more than a decade. The Minister of Sport, Mr. Patrick Simmons has challenged the GNBA with hosting the event after expressing satisfaction over the hosting of the just concluded Windward Island Basketball Tournament in Grenada.
