The Embassy of Saint Lucia in the United States is
spearheading a major Sports initiative to provide international exposure
and new opportunities to young athletes in Saint Lucia. As part of this
initiative an Under 18 Basketball team from Saint Lucia is expected to
participate in the 2010 Cleveland Cavaliers Continental Cup in
Cleveland, Ohio, July 1st to 4th, 2010. The Continental Cup is an international youth sports festival featuring
such events as the AC Milan Continental Cup, a premier international
youth soccer tournament, as well as a Continental Cup Basketball
tournament.

The tournament of the League Senior of Basketball (LSB) Hoops I am Alive has ended. Giants and the ASBA disputed on Saturday July 3rd 2010 at Quisqueya Christian School the final. Here is a resume of the interview of Mr. Jason VALBRUN, one of the persons in charge of LSB, by a reporter of the newspaper Le Matin two days before the final. After the disaster of January 12, the Haitian basketball was inactive and to mitigate this handicap, we at the LSB, took the initiative to gather the basketball family by organizing a tournament. We have organizes the tournament without the support of any sponsors.
Team Jamaica Men who have been sponsored by KFC and Flow as lead sponsors and SVL as associate sponsors have two surprising wins to close out the CAC games in 5th place. Fresh off of their disappointment in a controversial Centro Basket Tournament, Team Jamaica Men lost their final game to Panama by 4 points in the last 3 minutes, while coming close to history did not quite make it. The team now competing in the CAC games, fielded once again their team without any of their main stars such as Samardo Samuels, Jerome Jordan, Roy Hibbert, Patrick Ewing Jnr or Weyinmi Efejuku, all of whom were completing NBA obligations.
Team Jamaica Women repeat history and take a medal in both the Centro Basket Tournament and the CAC games in Mayaguez. The Women’s National Team has had some familiarity in placing in the top 4 of the Centro Basket Tournament and qualifying for the Tournament of the Americas. This time however was different, as their first trip ended badly in 2006/07, without much financial assistance for the team or awareness of the Jamaican public.
