British Virgin Islands beats US Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands defeated the US Virgin Islands 59-50 in game two of day one in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men. The first quarter ended tied at 14 and the tie was broken quickly into the second quarter with a three pointer by  Halstead Chiverton. The British kept the lead and finished up 29-24 as Chiverton had 14 points and Kennedy Bass 9.

Belize wins first game in Centrobasket Championship

The Belize national team opened the 2010 Centrobasket Championship with a win over Trinidad & Tobago 80-71 in a game played at Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Milt Palacio and Alex Carcamo netted 16 each while Richard Troyer added 14 for Belize who won a Silver medal in the 2009 COCABA Championship.

Cuba dominates Mexico to obtain their first win

The Cuban national team dominated Mexico 82-62 to win in day one of the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men. After a 10-10 tie with five minutes left, the Cubans made a 19-5 run to finish the first quarter up 29-15. Orestes Torres had 6 points and Allens Jemmott 5 for the Cubans who took advantage of their free throw trips thanks to their aggresive attack as they shot 11-12.

The Dominican Republic recovers to beat Panama

The Dominican Republic recovered and scored 25 points in the final quarter to beat Panama 63-56 to close day one of the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men. Kelvin Peņa had 18 points, nine of them in the final quarter to lead the Dominican offense who had serious problems in the first 30 minutes. Peņa made a three pointer with 1:56 left to put them up 59-55 and then baskets by Manuel Fortuna and Peņa after the turnovers by Panama sealed the win.

2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men begins today

The 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men begins today at Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This tournament will have ten national teams from Central America and the Caribbean that have been divided into two groups of five teams each. Group A has the British Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama and the US Virgin Islands. Group B features Belize, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago. In the Preliminary Round each team plays against the other four in their group (July 5-9). The top two teams per group continue their participation and the other six teams go home. The four teams still alive will play in the semifinal (1A vs. 2B, 1B vs. 2A) on July 10 and the finals will be played the next day. ...
