The Dominican Republic defines their twelve players for the Centrobasket Championship

SANTO DOMINGO (2010 Centrobasket Championship) - The Dominican Republic defined their twelve players for the 2010 Centrobasket Championship to be played from July 5-11 at Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo.The team is coached by Eric Musselman and will try to win gold in front of their fans who expect to qualify for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship which is a qualifier for the 2012 Olympic Games. The twelve finalists are: Charlie Villanueva, Jack Michael Martínez, Kelvin Peña, Amaury Filión, Ronald Ramón, Franklin Western, Carlos Morban, Manuel Fortuna, Carlos Paniagua, Joel Ramírez, Juan Pablo Montas and Manuel Guzmán.

Vincies hold nerve to win basketball title
With a large crowd on hand to cheer on the home team, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, dug deep, remained disciplined despite losing the final game by two points to Grenada; to win the 2010 Windward Islands Senior Male Basketball Championship at the Tanteen Courts on Sunday night.  Fully cognizant that Grenada had to win by at least six points to claim the sub-regional title, the Vincentians took the attack to the hosts, forcing them to commit numerous turnovers and errors. St. Vincent and the Grenadines won the first set 15 – 13, but lost the second 28 – 35, and the third 49 – 50 to set the stage for a finger-chewing, edge of your seat fourth set climax.read more
Showdown at Tanteen for Windwards title

A showdown between hosts Grenada and unbeaten St. Vincent and the Grenadines is expected to bring  to a volcanic finale, the 2010 Windward Islands Senior Male Basketball Championships on the third and final day; Sunday July 04, 2010 at the Tanteen Courts. With Grenada playing before their home crowd and is expected to be boosted with the arrival of one of their overseas based players...

Fallout expected over branding removal

A massive fallout is expected over the removal on Saturday of the Digicel branding which was on the protective padding around the rims at the Tanteen Courts. On Friday afternoon, during the opening ceremony many persons were seeking reasons for the placing of the Digicel branding on the protective pads. One of those persons seeking answers was Grenada Minister of Sports Patrick Simmons, who during the discussion with a member of the Grenada National Basketball Association was quite pleased with the thinking. Also at the opening ceremony was the Country Manager for Digicel Grenada, who overheard the discussion with the GNBA official.

Contrasting victories enjoyed on opening night

ST, GEORGE’S, Grenada – On the first night of the 2010 Windward Islands Senior Male Basketball Championships, it was a wakeup call for two of the four competing teams, as Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines won their opening games with contrasting margins.Following the delayed official opening ceremony, and another delayed start to the scheduled 6:00 p.m. start, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines took to the courts to commence their quest for the top prize in the sub-regional tournament, back after a ten-year hiatus. The Vincentians wasted very little time getting into their stride, and was soon enjoying a 9-2 lead, as their opponents struggled to get points on the board and mount a serious challenge.
