Quincy Miller (Quality Education Academy / Winston-Salem, N.C.) double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds led the USA’s effort as everyone scored, including nine in double digits. Miller’s rebounds set a new high-water mark for the USA U18 National Team for single-game rebounds at this even, surpassing the previous record of 15 by Shareef Abdur-Rahim versus Panama in 1994. ... SAN ANTONIO (FIBA-Americas U18 Championship for Men) - Argentina joins Brazil and Canada as the teams that already qualified for the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men after beating US Virgin Islands 82-50 in game three of day 2 in the FIBA-Americas U18 Championship for Men played in San Antonio, Texas. A balanced offensive attack and a great defense over USVI placed the Argentineans on top from the start. Juan Jose Givano and Carlos Paredes netted 16 of the 24 points made by Argentina as they won 24-12. Aaron Brown had 5 for USVI. In the second quarter Argentina opened the game thanks to a great defensive effort to finish the first half up 39-19. Ten of the twelve players by Argentina already scored by halftime. Argentina maintained an efficient attack on offense and continued to increase the lead to win their second game of this tournament.

History could be made tonight when two local basketball players - Jerome Jordan and Samardo Samuels - could be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA) as the 2010 NBA Draft takes place at Madison Square Gardens in New York City. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. EST. and will be televised live on the ESPN network. This would be the first time two Jamaican players, both of whom were discovered at the annual NIKE/KFC Star Search Basketball and Life Skills Development Camp, would be drafted into the NBA.
Brian Manning, son of former prime minister Patrick Manning, will step down as president of the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT) next month. Manning intends to resign his post in an ’effort to protect our national teams from individuals on the NBFTT’s board’, he stated yesterday in a news release.
