Now that Trinidad and Tobago’s senior men’s and women’s basketball teams have qualified for the Centrobasket tournament, the most prestigious tournament in the region and a qualifier for the Olympic Games, it’s time for the basketball community to take a long, hard look at itself and face reality. The qualification of both teams is a truly historic event, especially in light of the fact that the men’s senior team has not qualified for this tournament since 1989...that’s 21 years of futility. Why did it take this long for T&T basketball to regain a position of prominence in the region? ......
The Inaugural YOG will feature FIBA's 3-on-3 basketball tournaments for both young men and women, involving a total of 40 teams from 38 different countries. The competition is organised by FIBA and the International Olympic Committee. To make certain of the worldwide representation, the decision was taken to not allow countries to have teams in both the men's and women's tournaments with the exception of hosts Singapore and the United States, who have top four sides in both genders of the FIBA World Rankings. All five FIBA zones - Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania - will have representation. The YOG will bring together 3,600 athletes who are aged 14 to 18 and coming from all 205 National Olympic Committees to compete in the 26 sports on the London 2012 Olympic Games programme. ...
The Grenada National Basketball Association moves into full Tournament mode with the appointment of Tournament Manager Kenneth “Smallies” Noel. An Executive meeting examined final plans for the hosting of the Windward Islands Basketball Tournament at the Tanteen Recreational ground from Friday July 2nd to Sunday July 4. The three-days of competitive basketball sees the Grenada National Basketball Team play St. Vincent, St. Lucia and Dominica in round-robin engagements. The Tanteen Courts will from this week see a face lift which will include a newly-laid Flex-Court playing surface; new backboard and hoops and enhanced seating facilities in preparation for the Tournament.
SAN JUAN (2010 FIBA-Americas U18 Championship for Men) – The 20 games of the 2010 FIBA-Americas U18 Championship for Men will be broadcasted live via video streaming on the Internet at www.fibaamericas.com. Each day of competition will have four games, starting at 1:00 pm local time and the last one at 7:00 pm and each one will be broadcasted live on the Internet and also each game will have live stats on our website. “The current technology allows us to offer our National Federations the possibility to have access to the tournament information and because of their characteristics; some of them don't have coverage in the media. Some years ago we started to put the information on our website and we have live stats and information for most of the events, men or women, and even had a great audience in the participating countries. The parents, family members, the clubs or schools where they came from visited our webpage to know the results of the competition," said the FIBA-Americas Secretary General, Alberto Garcia.
The Virgin Islands basketball federation has announced the completion of the first phase of their selection process for the U-18 national team. The team will participate in the 2010 u-18 Americas championship in San Antonio, Texas from June 26th 30th, 2010. The national teams that will be participating in the championship are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, USA, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
